Little Feat. Rooster Rag. Universal
4 stars (out of 5)

Even if the present incarnation has only the most tenuous connection to the classic era of Little Feat, Rooster Rag is still a fine riff on their classic southern sound.

From the wickedly catchy blues of Mississippi John Hurt's Candy Man Blues to the cruisy boogie of Rag Top Down, Little Feat still put a capital G in groove. Putting aside a few forgettable fillers, Rooster Rag lyrically transports the listener from a Louisiana bayou to Jamaica by way of the French Quarter. Sassy horns, thumping back beat and loose jam-band-styled arrangements: Lowell George might be long gone, but he can rest in peace.
